Currently, the megastore tycoon is planning to install solar panels in across 60 stores in California. This will further develop the solar panel profile of the Company. It will be the first ever company with a portfolio who has taken steps to install solar panels in more than 75 percent of its stores in California. In this article, we are going to have a look at the same. Wal-Mart is a company that has always been an active contributor to the green technology in terms of availing the solar panel installations in its retail chain. It has recently announced that it is going to install solar panels and make the stores “go green” for more than 60 locations across California. California has always been a proving ground of the companies who want to go green. Wal-Mart is taking the opportunity to take part in a green revolution in California by undertaking this step. This makes Wal-Mart take part in developing a more sustainable environment and be a good corporate citizen of the USA too. Currently, there are the solar panel installations on top of 160 stores already in the state of California. Wal-Mart is thus planning to spend lesser in terms of its energy consumption. Thus Wal-Mart is planning to pass on the relevant discount to the customers so that even they can generate savings when they shop at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has availed an active partnership with a solar panel company in USA which goes by the name of Solar City. This company is located in the city of San Mateo, and it is operational in terms of business in the state of California. This partnership means a contract to Solar City from this retail giant in order to make way for the solar panels. The contract will include the various terms and conditions in order to establish the solar panel installations with the maintenance contract for the same. The overall project is a multimillion dollar project, but this will enhance the portfolio of Wal-Mart with 75 percent of the retail stores being able to power themselves with the green energy. It will also be a great opportunity for the business of Solar City since it shall have the expertise and the much needed and enhanced experience in working with a multibillion dollar company. This is surely going to fetch it more contracts. This venture of installing solar panels on to the roof of its retail stores in 75 percent of the state of California will generate up to 75 million kilowatt hours of energy which is in its cleanest form and renewable sources as well. It shall generate enough electricity to provide enough power to more than 5400 homes in California. This step initiated by Wal-Mart will avoid the release of more than over 21,700 metric tons of carbon dioxide in to the environment on an annual basis. This will also make the stores of Wal-Mart be self sufficient in terms of the electricity production. This is equivalent to taking 4200 cars away from the road and be able to save an equivalent amount of energy. Thus it can be seen that Wal-Mart is very much committed in order to make a provision of a very sustainable future in USA.
