Solar Energy ArticlesDream of Solar Panel on Every US Home It is often seen that the benefits of solar panel installation are innumerable, due to which the US government is offering subsidies for home owners to install them. However, the homeowners continue to find themselves amidst daunting of the high costs involved in the solar panels which make them to be delivered on an upfront basis. This causes the home owners to be a little less motivated by the solar panel installations, even though it is a great opportunity for them to go green and reduce their carbon footprint. However, it is seen that the solar panel market for the residential customers is witnessing a modest growth especially due to the fact that they are now available in the form of do-it-yourself kits and also the innovative installation approaches in the market. In this article, we brief upon such issues. The solar panels serve as an ultimate solution to offer green energy due to the much lesser extent of carbon emissions for a US citizen who is so much prone to making the environment polluted. It is the way in which the energy of the sun which is available in abundance can be harnessed and can be put to use to generate electricity without consuming any resources from the earth. It is truly a requirement in terms of environment perspective for the 21st century citizens. There has been an introduction of a large number of projects on renewable energy by the US owing to its keen interest in research and development. However, it is very well known that the economy is struggling and it is still a distant dream even for a wealthy country like USA to make it possible, the installation of solar panels on to each and every roof of households. If statistics in 2010 alone were to be considered, it is closely followed that there has been a growth in solar panel home installations in the USA from 62 Megawatts to 74 Megawatts. This is enough power to cater the requirements of electricity in almost 15000 homes in USA. The percentage of power contribution from the solar panel installation on a per home basis is too less as compared to the same from the industrial and commercial areas. This clearly indicates that it is not a progress that USA is looking forward to. In the year 2009, the percentage of solar panels installed in USA for home usage was roughly 36 percent. This further reduced to 30 percent in the subsequent year 2010. This is only indicative of the fact that solar power derived from homes is far less and that too decreasing in the USA. Statistically speaking, the results disappoint the USA government. This is due to the fact that the solar panel installations increased from the year 2010 to 2011 at residential level to mark a 14 percent growth. These figures may seem impressive, but they are very much disappointing since the same measure for the commercial and industrial markets for the same period have marked an increase by 119 percent. Hence it is clear that the USA solar markets fail to motivate the home installation of the solar panels. There is a great amount of take-off in the other markets of USA as compared to residential. The main issue that governs the decision of the USA homes to install the solar panels is the cost of availing such products. The solar systems are very expensive. It costs a whopping US $20,000-25,000 for a single installation of solar panels in an average property in USA. No doubt that the costs are negligible when it is considered over a lifespan of solar panels which is 25-30 years. But providing such costs on an upfront basis is really a concern for the homeowners.
