Solar Energy ArticlesSolar Farms Construction Getting energy from the sun and using it to produce electricity without having to use the increasingly diminishing amounts fossil fuels and preventing pollution is like a jackpot in current times in our world. However many of us have not been encouraged much to use solar energy because of its high cost and very long period of financial recovery. Hence using solar energy to power houses and everything in it has only been made possible by those humble few who can afford it and want to contribute to the environment. But now suddenly a new trend has begun to spring up. If you are not having enough money to install a solar panel, there are a few who can and in huge number. The investors are seeing this as an opportunity in the new industry and hence are ready to construct huge solar farms and transport electricity to a small area, region, or a town. There have been some interesting cases regarding setting up solar farms in various parts of the world. A university student in Michigan was able to set up a large solar farm in the state. In spite of its economical viability he has tried to build solar panels and set up the solar panel support system and has been successful. He has also set up the electrical services and wiring. This type of infrastructure that is required for the solar panels is quite essential but will take up a huge manufacturing cost. So this undergrad decided to set up his set up the infrastructure on his own. This helped him save quite a lot of money on the construction. Also the solar panels in the solar farms require tilting and adjusting according to the direction of the sun in order to maximize the energy output. This movement of huge panels requires a movable tracker system which was again not quite reasonable. Hence with the view to minimize the project cost. So he decided to build his own tracker system. The main idea of the solar farm is to provide electricity through solar energy to those who are willing to contribute themselves in preserving the environment. With all the countries around the world especially European countries are trying to achieve complete independence from fossil fuels, many economists have realized the larger scope of solar energy. The countries like Germany and Sweden have already achieved a certain percentage of renewable energy generation (however there are some controversies in Sweden which questions whether the technology is truly ecofirendly). The solar farm projects such as Topaz solar farm utilize solar thin PV panels. These panels have been manufactured by First Solar. This project is claimed to produce about 1100GW of electricity. The major challenge in bringing out the solar farm is not just making it work, but to turn it into a profitable running business. Apart from running good business the assembling and manufacturing work takes place on a huge scale generating jobs for thousands. However the newly developed solar projects are facing new kind of challenge which is the land tax. There have been cases where the land tax assessor has upgraded the status of the 2 acre land from “leasehold improvement” to “real commercial property” in such cases the taxes have gone up dramatically. Usually the break even for such solar projects is ten to twelve years which is as it is quite long, but with the tax increment it may go beyond that too. All these factors tend to become major challenges in establishing a renewable energy source are actually discouraging the spreading of solar energy. Solar energy farms are an excellent way to optimize the returns from the manufacturing costs and a great way to help the environment in the process. Related articles
