The Pros and Cons of Solar Panel Power (politically)

It is true that the solar panels serve as the best way for harnessing the energy of the sun and deriving the electrical output from it to be used for a variety of applications. But historically, it is seen that the solar panels have not been proven to be cost effective at all. There have been great number of innovations in the industry of the solar panels so that the costs availed to the customers can be cut down to a great extent. Yet, solar panels continue to be a matter of burden on one’s pockets.

It is very much appealing, the solar panel concept have captivated the markets for being able to generate electricity out of almost nothing. But there have been a great number of restrictions imposed on the solar panels being able to be adapted by the markets of the world. This is mainly due to the price factor. It is very much true that the fossil fuels also are not quite cheap. But they are at least heavily subsidized by the respective governments of the world. Hence solar panel markets have not yet gained a decent momentum as it had been expected. Moreover, the country which has been inventing millions of dollars in the research and development has itself failed to accumulate enough number of support required to make solar panels a matter of widespread use and therefore failed to set an example to the rest of the world.

The current prices in order to avail the solar panels are indicating some drastic unpredictable figures in terms of cost. It is estimated that the per kilowatt-hour rate of the solar panel electricity generation is 25 to 50 cents, which statistically costs more than five times the cost required to generate the same amount of electricity through the conventional age old sources of electricity like the fossil fuels. Hence politically speaking, the solar panels are a massive cost intensive drives for any household and in a bigger picture for any country to avail.

History tells us that President of the United States was a prime de-motivator for the solar panel industry which caused them to go bankrupt in which could be called as one of the worst decisions taken in the history of alternative fuel sources' development. The solar panels installed by the earlier President Jimmy Carter were removed from the white house and the solar panel industries which were enjoying tax credits from the government of USA started dwindling in their stands when such tax credits were suddenly removed by the Reagan administration. Likewise, the momentum of the solar panel industry was gained in the Clinton administration but was severely suppressed in the Bush administration. But the high oil prices owing to the demand and supply of the fossil fuel derived electricity has made USA to consider a massive investment in the solar panel industry sooner or later.

The major chunk of investors and the ones who favor the solar panel industry are the environmentalists and the mechanical engineers. The environmentalists support the solar panel industry due to the obvious reasons of the green energy and no release of the harmful greenhouse gases. Similarly, mechanical engineers support the solar panel industry due to the exciting job opportunities that can be availed by them and fellow member in case the solar panel industry gains momentum in terms of business in the market. Reports state that there has been a late yet steady awakening of the solar panel investments derived from the developed nations of the world like USA. Venture capitalists had invested roughly US $100 million into the start-ups of the solar panel projects and the numbers further rose in the year 2007.

All in all, it can be stated that the opportunities in the solar panel markets are very exciting. But it all depends upon the governments of the respective nations and the investments from venture capitalists as to how the political upbringing of the solar panels takes place.
