Solar Energy ArticlesSolar Panels in Rural India Rural India consists of majority of landmass in the mainland of India. Although majority of Indian population belonged to the rural India, this scenario is rapidly diminished due to the quick pace with which the cities are being developed and also the ones that are being formed. In this picture, rural India development is hampered to some extent. In this article, we are going to have a case study that witnesses the economic development of rural India via the installation of solar panels. It was an auto driver, a rose picker and a midwife who took the initiative. Rural India would benefit a lot from the solar panel installation and its usage thereon; this was the view by which they forecasted the economic development of a rural area. The man behind the project was an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur. Harish Hande, 37 years of age had the will to light the bulbs and provide basic amenities to villagers, something that they had never experienced. Selco India, which proudly won the "Green Oscar" award for the same purpose set up solar panels at a place outside suburbs of Bangalore. The solar panel was installed over the roof top of an auto-driver's house by the name of R Vijaya Kumar. Although by his profession he does not sound like someone who would put thought into solar panel installation and usage, this project has transformed his life from an auto-driver to an entrepreneur. The business that is carried out by this person is lending out batteries to the street vendors at a minimal cost per night to ignite their vendor-carts. These batteries, as you guessed it right are charged via the solar panels installed at his property. This fetched Vijaya three times more income than what he could have got for an entire days of auto rickshaw fares. Selco India, has been empowering rural India via the installation of solar panels. The main areas of operation at present are at Gujarat and Karnataka. With innovative ideas, Selco India's solar panel installations are definitely touching lives. The rural areas have experienced transformation due to the harnessing of solar power, which was a fact unknown and unexplored. Innovation certainly has been a key value addition and a path to success in people's lives. Solar panel installation outside areas of Bangalore have led to a lot businesses and thereby income generation. From helping the maids to being able to deliver the kids under dollar lights in those rural areas, solar panels have generated a lot of employment via different services. Rose-pickers in the areas described above have no longer fear of darkness causing hindrance to their business. People now take up extra time in their business since they are confident that the solar lights are never going to be out of power. When Mr. Hande was asked about the design, he stated that the design is never the best at any point of time. Designs are meant to be upgraded and changed over a period of time so that they are able to suit the customer requirements. In case of products like the solar panels, there is never a fundamental concept of "one size fits all". Selco India has realized the potential that can be provided by the solar panel installation. It is evident that the government bodies in India as well as the other companies in charge of power supply shall derive some inspiration from this deedful project. The further expansion plans, though not very aggressive for Selco India, are to make the provision of other product and services in rural India. This includes solar stoves that can cook food and provide freedom from cooking fuel for low income females in rural India. References: Related articles
